BT&T began operations in 1995-96 with the objective of investing in listed technology companies world-wide in line with a specific concept – the BT&T Concept. To this end, the Beteiligungsgesellschaft for Telekommunikation und Technologie (BT&T) was founded as an investment company for institutional and private investors and floated on the Swiss stock exchange.

The BT&T investment universe was defined by the TIME® themed concept. TIME® is the concept of the industry of the future “in and around communication” world-wide that was developed in cooperation with Arthur D. Little International in 1994-95. The TIME® concept and the BT&T investment concept subsequently evolved steadily into the BT&T Concept. The LIFE® themed concept was formulated in 1999-2000. LIFE® is the concept of the industry of the future “in and around life” world-wide, developed by BT&T.
